Please use your inside voice

How often do you hear yourself (or remember telling your little ones), “Use your inside voice!” But seriously, how often do we take our own advice?
I am very aware of my two voices; my outside voice and my inside voice. They argue a LOT.
My outside voice likes to please others and speak in the positive. My outside voice is polite and likes to look like she has it all figured out and knows exactly the right thing to say/do all the time.
My inside voice does not care about being judged, doing it wrong, making the wrong decision or pleasing anyone other than me most of the time.
My inside voice is quiet, but persistent and always present.
I am a master at drowning out my inside voice by keeping myself busy, distracted with things to do and exhausting myself, and I KNOW when I ignore that voice I pay the price with inevitable drama in my life and I suffer.
At times, I realy tune in and listen. And when I do, I experience more peace, have more access to my creativity and feel more connected to my truest self. Basically I feel better and have more energy.
And that is good for everyone.
However, weeding through all the voices and tuning into my inner voice is not always easy! It’s crazy in there and all those voices competing inside my very busy head can make me crazy.
Over the last 30 years the ONE and only thing that quiets the noise and reliably brings me back home to my true self is my meditation practice.
While I can busy myself out of my daily practice, which is a brilliant avoidance strategy, what I know to be true is that when I give myself permission to pause and be still even just for a few minutes I feel more connected, confident and calm. It is there that I feel free.
