How one honest conversation brought a family back together
June 15, 2025
She and her husband had done everything “right” for their daughter.
They supported her through college. Helped her get her ‘best first job’. Encouraged her to start her business shortly after. Gave her every opportunity to succeed.
And then she walked away from all of it.
Moved across the country. Gave up the career path they helped her build. Chose love—and in the process, distanced herself from them.
Her parents were hurt, confused, and deeply disappointed.
But no one said anything.
The silence turned into disconnection. The relationship slowly unraveled.
Until one day, their daughter sat them down and said something that changed everything:
“I know how disappointed you are in me and my choices. That’s why I’ve pulled away.”
It was a moment of truth. The kind that either brings people closer… or drives them further apart.
But instead of denying it or trying to fix it, this mom paused and asked herself the one simple question I teach in my workshop:
👉 Where am I?
She realized she was in judgment.
Trying to control what she couldn’t accept.
Reacting from fear instead of love.
And in that moment, she chose honesty over protection.
She and her husband acknowledged their daughter’s truth—without defense.
That one moment cracked the door open to reconnection.
This is the power of self-awareness.
This is what happens when we pause long enough to check in—and choose a different way.
If you’re navigating tension or disconnection in a relationship right now, I want you to know:
✨ You don’t need to change the other person.
✨ You just need a better way to relate.
That’s what I’ll be teaching in my One Simple Question Workshop on Tuesday, June 24.
You’ll learn the exact tool I use (and teach) to shift out of protection and into presence—no matter what’s happening around you.
True connection is possible.
And it begins with one simple question.
in trust and gratitude,
