How to Create a Parent Nation With Dr Dana Suskind
April 10, 2022
Can you imagine feeling completely supported as a parent no matter where you lived, what you did, how much money you made or what your circumstances are?
Can you imagine never being stressed or worried about raising your kids and getting their needs met?
Can you imagine a government, a workforce and a society that valued the needs of our families above all else?
What kind of future would our kids live into if we prioritized their healthy development above all else?
Her new book, Parent Nation, offers a powerful blueprint for a society that helps all families meet the developmental needs of their children. Weaving together the latest science on the developing brain with stories of families from all walks of life, Dr. Suskind shows how the status quo—scores of parents left to shoulder the enormous responsibility of early childhood care and education on their own—is not only unsustainable, but deeply detrimental to children, families, and society.
A parent of eight, Dr. Suskind is a pediatric cochlear implant surgeon and the founder and co-director of the TMW Center for Early Learning + Public Health at the University of Chicago. Recognized as a national thought leader in early language development, she has dedicated her research and clinical life to optimizing foundational brain development and preventing early cognitive disparities and their lifelong impact.
I was thrilled to have this conversation with Dr Suskind about her new book and even more excited to share it with you.
