What happens when we parent like we garden?

What every woman needs more of this summer

August 16, 2026

My husband and I had tickets to an outdoor concert but at the last minute he couldn’t go.

I was sad.

I was really looking forward to our date night.

It was a beautiful Chicago summer night and as the summer winds down I am feeling some scarcity about enjoying the last of the sweet summer nights. I know what is ahead.

So I spent a little time with my sadness. I had a vision for how my night was going to go — and that was ending.

I pivoted and asked a friend instead.

So I went on my date night with a girlfriend.

The weather was divine. There was really great music, a full moon, motorcycles and spontaneous fireworks.

It was a perfectly unplanned magical night.

It was exactly the medicine I forgot I needed.

I woke up the next morning buzzing with joy. I had so much energy. I felt like the Energizer bunny. I was in creative flow with spontaneous ideas flooding me enthusiastically.

I could feel my vibration rising and more importantly I could feel the impact it was having on everyone around me.

My daughter noticed immediately that something was different,  giggling, asking me what was going on.

It’s joy, I thought to myself. And it feels really good.

That’s the nervous system of the home in action.

When I rise everyone rises with me.

And it reminded me of two things:

#1 The power of grieving and letting go — even the little things.

I had to let go of the night I thought was going to happen and make space for something else.

My good friend Dr. Laura Berman often reminds me of this.

She says that grief and joy are not opposites.

They are portals.

When a woman learns to feel her grief, really feel it, she doesn’t just heal.

She comes more alive.

That’s true empowerment.

#2 The magic that happens when women come together.

Every time I spend time with my girlfriends I feel so nourished.

It’s easy to forget with our busy lives, but the payoff is well worth it.

And that had me thinking about you and an event I created for you on August 26th.

The Woman Behind the Mother is my gift to you.

To every woman on the mothering spectrum ready to explore what it means to be a fully expressed, empowered woman living a life of true joy — in a culture systematically designed to suppress your wants, your needs, your desires, your voice.

I’ve invited four extraordinary women as panelists to be part of this conversation with us. Including Dr. Laura Berman,  whose story and whose wisdom will move you in ways you won’t expect.

Just like that perfectly unplanned magical night,  sometimes the most transformative experiences are the ones we didn’t see coming.

Come as you are.

August 26th is for you.
