Two Ways To Navigate Discomfort Now

September 15, 2024

Recently, I stepped out of my comfort zone in several areas of my life, both personal and professional. (It’s been a ride my friends!) For instance, I’m now creating videos to share with you rather than sticking to my comfort zone of writing. This shift, along with a few other changes, stirred up some fear in me— kinda like riding a roller coaster. My usual patterns of safety and control were challenged, and my nervous system reacted.

When that happens there are two choices to make:

Contract and stay safe and small or open, expand and trust life. Do you know which one you reliably choose?

I talk more about what it means to expand in this week’s video.

Where do you play it safe in your life and relationships?

Here are some clues to look for:

Are you afraid to ask for more support from your partner, friends, kids, co-workers?

Do you want more time to yourself but can’t seem to figure out how to get it?

Are you holding your voice back because you don’t want to be judged?

Do you want more connection with your adult kids but afraid to seem overbearing?

Are you wanting to improve your sex life but not sure how to open the conversation?

What is true is that your comfort zones, while they may feel safe, can actually hold you back from growth, fulfillment, and deeper connections in your life and relationships. These familiar ways of being might provide reliable, though not always favorable, results, but this reliability offers only a false sense of safety and security.

Like making chocolate chip cookies; If you always use the same recipe, you’ll always get the same cookies. (which is good for cookie making but not always best in life…)

In life, sticking to familiar patterns means getting predictable results, even if they aren’t always what we want. But when you dare to try something new, you open yourself up to new & different outcomes and creative possibilities.

This is where true growth happens.
